Cultus Lake Horse Trail leads out of the northeast corner of the parking lot. Up some switchbacks put there I am sure to settle all the horses. Up and over the hump and you will come to a T intersection, turn left......right goes to some Bible Camps in Columbia Valley. Need to mark this intersection for when you come back the same way. You will come to a rocky section where the creek typically washes over the banks and spreads out over the trail. If the creek is back in its bed there is a nice spot to cross and water. Any foot paths you see along this section lead up to the Teapot Hill Lookout. The trail up there is for hikers only. Horses punch big holes in the trail and are not appreciated. In case you didn't know - it is called teapot hill cuz someone found an old teapot up there and it is said it dates back to the time of the finding of Canada by the Spanish??????? Footing gets better again and a little further along you will come to another intersection and I believe it is marked as a horse trail. It goes right around a big fir tree. Follow this up, it starts climbing soon and then takes a sharp down to Teapot Creek. At the creek there is another T intersection. The right goes across the creek past the decaying bridge. Straight ahead takes you back down (one short, nasty, rocky, steep hill) to a road. If you go left it takes you back to camp. Don't miss the right turn though that takes you back to the Watt Creek parking lot. It is definitely a good climb for the horses, might need to take a breather or two. We don't see much for wildlife but have seen a couple deer and once a bear. On a weekend I am sure you will meet some hikers and probably a few dogs. Mostly on the road section of the trail where hikers going to the Teapot Hill Lookout and the horses share common trail. That's only about a 1/2 mile section. rose Note - the Horse Trail loop as shown in the map below does not cross Teapot creek. The map is in error, the trail actually goes down the west side of the creek, not the east side. If it is a hot day you can take you horse for a swim after you ride the trails. There is camping over night for you and your horses. Click on map for large printable image
