Matsqui Trail Regional Park

Printable Trail Map

Directions
This park lies along the Fraser River in Abbotsford. There are several access points to the trail along the length of the park, but first-time visitors are advised to go to the main park entrance which lies under the south end of the Mission Bridge. From Highway 11, take the Matsqui Village Exit, travel north on Riverside Street and watch for the green and yellow park entrance signs.

Other trail head

From Abbotsford, B.C. access to the Olund Road trailhead is off Harris road about ½ mile east of the Mt Lehman road junction with Harris road. Here Olund road joins Harris road from the south. At this junction there  is a driveway joining Harris road from the north side. Turn in here and you will immediately come to a large parking area. There is signage and an outhouse at the point where the trail leaves the parking area. About 45 minutes of easy riding along wide graveled trail through timber brings you to the Matsqui dyke along the Fraser River. This first section of trail has two rail crossings. The first is an easy level crossing along a straight stretch of track. Listen for the train and if you hear it coming there is plenty of space to wait or ride back a bit  till it goes by. The next crossing is under a rail bridge. It can be a challenge to get your mule or horse through it the first time. Be prepared to ride back down the trail a ways if you hear a train coming and your horse is not cooperating. If you are in a group, keep your horses well spaced as you approach either of these crossings.

After you pass under the bridge go past the pump station on your right and then up over the dyke. The trail now follows the dyke along the river, and views of farmland on your right and of the town of Mission and the Mission bridge up ahead. There are more vehicle access points along here. Continue as far as you care to ride until you meet Sumas mountain where the dyke ends. You will see a large rock quarry on the mountain here.  There is vehicle access at this point also, so you could make a one-way ride by leaving a trailer here. Total distance from the Olund trailhead to the end of the dyke is about 17 km. of very easy trail. The attached map does not have the Olund road trailhead shown on it, Olund trailhead is off the west edge.
